Richard L. "Drifter" Munson, age 76, of Kirkwood, Illinois; passed away at his residence in Kirkwood on January 17, 2014 at 8:29 pm. Richard was born on January 10, 1938 in Smithshire, Illinois and is the son of Emil L and Dora F. Gilbert Munson. He was raised in Warren County, where he was schooled and he attained his General Education Degree. Dick then entered the United States Army in 1955 where he served as a Private First Class until his discharge in 1958. He had several employments including at Keisters and at Culligan Soft Water, but was a roofer by trade and employed mainly by the Local Roofers Union 32 in Rock Island for most of his career. Richard loved hunting and playing cards with his family and friends. He loved Motorcycles and loved to ride them . He also for a time owned and raced a horse at the Quad City Downs. He loved the horse races. Surviving are two sons, Michael Munson of Kirkwood, IL. and Mark Munson of Galesburg, IL. Shirley L. Caldwell, his loving partner of thirty-two years also is surviving Dick. There are six grandchildren and two great grandchildren surviving. Two brothers survive, Floyd Munson and Theodore (Bonnie) Munson, both of Monmouth, Illinois. There are also a number of nieces and nephews surviving. He is preceded in his death by his parents, and one son Richard Alan Munson. Services:As were his wishes cremation rites are being accorded, and no funeral arrangements are currently being planned by his family.
