Richard L. "Rick" Jarvis, age 77, of Oquawka, Illinois; passed away at 8:44 am on Friday August 17, 2012 at OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth, Illinois. Rick was born November 30, 1934 in Monmouth, Illinois and is the son of Virgil D. and Mildred Gearhart Jarvis. Rick was raised in Stronghurst, Illinois where he attended local schools and graduated from the Stronghurst High School with the class of 1952. He first was married to Carol Lovitt, and later was married to Marilyn "Boots" Patterson Ebany on June 10, 1978 in Gladstone, Illinois. Rick first worked as a carpenter with his father and grand father, in their firm Jarvis and Jarvis, Co. of Stronghurst, Illinois. He later owned and operated Jarvis Hardware and also Jarvis Fertilizer, both companies in Stronghurst, Illinois. More recently and to the present, Rick has been a local contractor self employed in both the Gladstone, IL and Burlington, IA areas operating Jarvis and Jarvis contracting. He has been a member of the Stronghust Masonic Lodge AF & AM and later the Oquawka Masonic Lodge 123AF & AM. He enjoyed square dancing, playing pool, and fishing. Most of all he loved his family. Rick was a huge supporter of the Republican party in Henderson County and often cooked fish for various gatherings. He most loved his dog "Angel" Rick is survived by his wife Marilyn "Boots" Jarvis of Oquawka, Illinois and his daughter Laurie Cranberg of Burlington, IA, and sons Richard (Julie) Jarvis III of Mohammed, IL; and Jeff (Kim) Jarvis of Dallas City, Illinois. Step daughters Rhenae (fiance' Steve) Hasley of Oquawka, IL; Rhonda (Tony) Day of Abingdon, IL; Rosie Ruse of West Burlington, IA; step sons Ralph (Tina) Ebany, Jr. of Rockford, IL; Rick Ebany of Burlington, IA; and Ronnie Ebany of Galesburg, IL. There are nineteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren surviving. One sister Barb (Jerry) Jack of LaHarpe, IL survives. He is preceded in his death by his parents and one brother. Cremation is being accorded. A celebration of his life will be September 1st 2012 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at the Oquawka Eagles Club.
