Richard A. Martin, age 49, of rural Little York, Illinois; passed away at 2:00 am Saturday Feb7th as a result of a traffic accident. Richard was born on January 24, 1960 in Monmouth, and is the son of Francis "Polly" and Irene M. Bennett Martin. Richard was raised in Monmouth where he attended local schools and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1978. He was previously married to Margie Welsh. Richard began work at Wilson Foods in Monnmouth for 6 years and at that time also worked as EMT for the Roseville Ambulance Service. He also coached little league baseball in Roseville for a number of years. He then worked at Catfish Bend Riverboat Casino as Security Supervisor and EMT for a time and later worked as a guard at the Henry Hill Correctional Center in Galesburg, IL. Following this, Richard moved to Logansport, Indiana for a time and returned to live in Monmouth about two years ago. Richard currently was a bartender at First Avenue Pub and also was in construction with Bill Nichols locally. Richard also enjoyed performing locally as DJ for various weddings and private functions. He enjoyed fishing, oil painting, and playing baseball. Surviving Richard are six sisters Connie (Ron) Miller; Judy (Mike) Louck and Nancy Wooddell all of Monmouth, Illinois. Theresa (Chuck) Struble of Lincoln, Nebraska; Mary (Gary) Hull of Irving, Texas; and Paula (Joey) Hull of New Castle, Pennsylvania. Two brothers survive, Jack (Ginger) Martin of Monmouth, Illinois and David (Joyce) Martin of Logansport, Indiana. A step son Dustin Welsh of Roseville, and special friend Jackie Worley also survives. Preceding Richard are his Grandparents and Parents. Services:A Mass of the Christian Burial will be on Wednesday February 11th at Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth, Illinois at 10:00 am. Cremation is to follow the mass. His family plans to receive friends at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm A memorial fund for Richard is being established by his family.
