Richard L. Millard

Richard L. "Poppo" Millard, age 84, of Monmouth, passed away at 12:30 am on Sunday, February, 2019 at Marigold Nursing Home in Galesburg, Illinois. Richard was born on April 26, 1934 in Monmouth, and is the son of Lawrence A. and Helen L. Brownlee Millard. He was raised in Monmouth where he attended Monmouth Public Schools. He married Betty Jean Hess on May 4, 1952 in Monmouth, Illinois and she preceded him in her death on October 9, 2002. Richard first began work at Larson Furniture Store in Monmouth and then at the Rivoli Theatre. He then was an over-the-road driver and was in business with his father operating Millard Trucking, locally. Lastly Richard was employed as a Forman at Maytag in Galesburg for many years until his retirement in 1996. He always enjoyed spending time with family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. His hobbies included hunting, woodworking, mushrooming, and going fishing with Charlie. Richard is survived by two daughters, Cindy (Dale McKillip) Boyd of Galesburg, Illinois and Kathy (John Bunch) Millard of Macomb, Illinois. There are four granddaughters, Jody (David Nash) Riedel, Alyssa and Aleeah Bunch, and Shannon VanBrooker. There are three great granddaughters, Kaitlyn (Mariah) Riedel, Shelbi Nash, and Natalie Boyd, and two great grandsons, Cody (Vanessa) Riedel and Anthony Rohr. One sister is also surviving, Bonnie Bell of Galesburg, Illinois. There are also a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives surviving. He is preceded in his death by wife, grandson, Robbie Boyd, brothers, Ron, Gary, and Ed Millard, and sisters, Peg Schisler and Diane Tarr. A funeral service for Richard is planned on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 11:00 am at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park. His family plans visitation and will receive their friends from 9:00 to 11:00 prior to the service at the Turnbull Funeral Home.
