Richard O. Olson

Richard O. Olson, age 75, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at Heartland Health Care Center in Galesburg, Illinois on January 2, 2012 at 12:15 pm. Richard was born on October 14, 1936 in and is the son of John and Bertha Bleifield Olson. Richard was raised in Morris, Illinois where he attended school and graduated from Morris High School in 1954. He then entered the Navy and served during the Korean conflict. Richard was married to Doris E. Olson on June 15, 1957 in Dekalb, Illinois; and she is surviving. Richard began work at the Goodyear Store in Morris, Illinois. and continued into managerial training and that position for a number of stores. He came to Monmouth taking a position as decorator and manager for Fred DeWaele Carpet and Wallpaper which he did for a number of years, until beginning work at the Monmouth Post Office as Maintenance Engineer. He held that position for a number of years until his retirement. Richard's primary focus was his family and his work. Surviving Richard is his wife Doris of Monmouth, and two daughters Phyllis (Jeffrey) Frick of Green Bay, Wisconsin and Elizabeth (Lt Col David) Krempasky of Stongsville, OH. There are four grandchildren, Abbey, Annika, and Alaina Frick, and Joshua Krempasky. Also two nieces survive, Carol Dolan of Morris and Christine Gaddo He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister Althea Gaddo. Services:A funeral service will be on Friday January 6, 2012 at 10:30 am at the Anderson Funeral Home, 2011 South Fourth Street in Dekalb, Illinois with interment and military honors in the Fairview Park Cemetery. His family plans visitation at the Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth on Thursday evening with the family present from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. A memorial fund is being established for "Focus on the Family" in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
