Richard L. " Rick" Carrier, age 57, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 1:47 p.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2008, at his residence. Rick was born on April 6, 1951 in Monmouth the son of Kenneth Law and Dorothy Mae Wheeler Carrier. Rick was raised in Colchester and Monmouth, Illinois attending Monmouth High School and graduating in 1969. He also attended Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, IL. He married Jennifer L. Light on June 17, 1972 in Monmouth, Illinois. Rick began his employment with his father "Kenny" at Maple City Termite and Pest Control of Monmouth. He then worked with Southard Tree Experts for a time until 1981 when he began Carrier Tree Care which he continued until the present in Monmouth, Illinois. Rick is a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church. Rick was unique in that he worshiped in three churches, offered inspiration to many friends in many denominations, and offered music his whole life to so many. Rick was a bass guitar player and had an avid interest in music. He has played in various rock and roll bands since high school with several of his friends and many others. He has been very active in Praise bands for the First United Methodist Church and First Christian Church, both of Monmouth. Rick enjoyed fishing, golf, and playing cards with his family. He was an active Dad in the Tri-County baseball league and was a member of the Monmouth High School Boosters. Rick also had interest in History especially for the period of World War II and Pearl Harbor. His family and his two grandchildren were his main interest. He is survived by his wife Jennifer Carrier of Monmouth; one daughter, Courtney Agan and Neil of Alexis; one son Jeremy Carrier MD, and Lindsay of Peoria, Illinois. Two grandchildren survive, Samantha and Brady Agan of Alexis; Four sisters Julie Glasgow of Alanson, MI; Pam Jones of Monmouth, Kim Smith of Milan, Illinois, and Tammy Halcomb and Jimmy of Monmouth, two brothers Terry Carrier and Kim of Monmouth and Kendall Carrier and Julie of Bradenton, Florida Numerous Nieces, Nephews, and other relatives are surviving. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Vicki Jo. Services:A celebration of his life has been planned on Monday October 6th, at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church in Monmouth, Illinois His family plans to receive friends at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth on Sunday between the hours of 1:00 and 3:00 pm Cremation has been accorded. A memorial fund is being established for either Faith United Presbyterian Church, First United Methodist Church, or First Christian Church, all of Monmouth, Illinois.
