Rilla C. Stivers

Rilla C. Stivers, age 83, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 3:45 P.M. on Friday, August 18, 2017 at the Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth, Illinois. She was born on March 4, 1934 in Stronghurst, Illinois, the daughter of Ross C. and Ellen V. (Williams) Lefler. Rilla was educated in Jackson Corner School and the Kirkwood School District. On February 13, 1954, she married John R. "Jack" Stivers and he preceded her in death on June 30, 2001. She began work at an early age at the County Farm South of Monmouth. Rilla worked for many years as a nurse aid at Monmouth Hospital and Monmouth Nursing Home until her retirement in 1988. She enjoyed bingo, riding motorcycles, camping, crocheting, and watching "Days of Our Lives". Rilla is survived by one daughter, Susan Wright of Oquawka, IL, two sons; John Jr. (Vicki Smith) Stivers and Joseph Stivers, both of Monmouth, IL, four sisters; Martha Wicks, Ona Mae Young, Reva Farmer, and Alleyne Mills, and one brother, Jerry Lefler, her grandchildren; Samantha, Anthony, Devin, Nathon, and Joshua and two great-grandchildren; Gaberiel and Aiden. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Rilla is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack, one sister, Doris Carnes, and five brothers; Kenneth Lefler, Loren Lefler, Adrian Lefler, Lyle Lefler, and Larry Lefler. Graveside Memorial Service As were Rilla's wishes, cremation is being accorded. A graveside memorial service is planned for 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Warren County Memorial Park in Monmouth. A memorial fund is being established and will be designated at a later date.
