Robert W. "Bob" Sprout

Robert W. "Bob" Sprout, age 92, of Fairview Center; passed away at the Roseville Rehab Center in Roseville, Illinois on April 10, 2014 at 3:00 am. Bob was born on November 13, 1921 in Monmouth, Illinois and is the son of W. I. and Evelyn K. Hull Sprout. He was reared and educated in rural Warren County where he attended the rural Phelps Grade School, then attended and graduated from Monmouth High School with the class of 1941. He entered the United States Navy in 1942 where he served as 2nd class Petty Officer as a radio operator until his discharge in 1945. Bob married Audrey Howver on September 10, 1944 at the Fairview Center United Brethren Church of Warren County. She is surviving. Robert was a farmer all of his life in grain and livestock. He began farming on the Sprout family homestead and farmed it for forty-five years until his retirement. He is a member of Fairview Center United Methodist Church, a fifty year member of the Masonic Lodge. He is a member of the Warren County Farm Bureau and the Marion B. Fletcher Post 136 of the American Legion. In his earlier years, he was a 4-H leader and coached Jr. Sheriff League Softball. He served on the Warren School Board for eight years. His hobby was woodworking. Surviving Bob is his wife, Audrey Sprout of Fairview Center; two daughters, Kay Jenks (Stan) of Monmouth, Illinois and Sue Endsley (John) of Rochester, IL. There are three sons; Milo (Jan) Sprout of Monmouth, IL, George (Peggy) Sprout of Monmouth, IL, and Todd (Chris) Sprout of Kirkwood, Illinois. There are fourteen grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. And several cousins also survive. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Genevieve Rose, and brother-in-law Keith Howver. Services:A funeral service will be at 10:30 am on Monday, April 14, 2014 at Fairview Center United Methodist Church. His family plans visitation with the family present at Turnbull Funeral Home on Sunday, April 13, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Interment will be in Lenox Union Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established for either Jamison Community Center in Monmouth or the Asbury Children's Supper Hour of the Fairview Center United Methodist Church.
