Robert D." Bob " Martin, age 86, passed away at 9:11 am at his Monmouth residence on Tuesday April 15, 2014. Robert was born on January 30, 1928 in Monmouth, Ill and is the son of Arthur L. and Euforsine Franzen Martin. Bob was reared and educated in Monmouth and was a member of the Monmouth High School Class of 1945. On August 20, 1950, Bob married Glenna D. Sharp in Monmouth and she survives. He proudly served his Country with the 2nd Army Division during the Korean War. Bob was baptized and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Monmouth where he served on the Church council several times. He was a lifelong farmer in Hale Township of Warren County raising grain and livestock. He was one of the original volunteer firemen of the Little York Fire Protection District. Bob also served as the Town Clerk of Hale Township for many years. He was the Beef Chairman and President of the Warren County Prime Beef Festival in the 1960's. Bob helped coach Jr. Sheriff League softball and a big supporter of Warren School athletics. He was the third generation of the Martin family to serve on the Monmouth Trust and Savings Bank and Marquette Bank Board. Bob was also a member of the American Legion. Bob is survived by his wife Glenna, one son, Gary (Jan) Martin of Monmouth, IL, one daughter, Cathy (Jim) Bodine of Erie, IL, three granddaughters, Ami (Aaron) Martin Winter of Galesburg, IL, Angi (Brian) Martin Prudent of Moline, IL, and Lindsey Martin of Palo Alto, CA, one step-granddaughter, Jill (Dave) Pearson or Oronoko, MN, six great-grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Lawrence, Ralph, Gerald, and Glenn and two sisters, Evelyn and Lois. Services:A funeral service is planned for 10:30 am on Monday, April, 21, 2014 at the First Lutheran Church in Monmouth, Illinois. Bob's family will receive friends on Sunday, April 20, 2014 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Interment will follow the service at Monmouth Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the First Lutheran Church in Monmouth or Hospice Compassus.
