Robert G. Gavin, age 82, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 11:13 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2008, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Illinois. Robert was born on May 23, 1925, in rural Monmouth, the son of George P. and Rose Hennenfent Gavin. Raised and educated in the Monmouth area, Robert attended the Farmers Academy, and graduated from Monmouth High School. Robert married Imogene Eversmeyer in July, 1947 in Monmouth. She passed away on September 13, 1959. He married Jane Elaine Nash on February 3, 1968 in Monmouth. Robert was a lifelong grain and livestock farmer in Warren County. A member and former trustee of the Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth, Robert was also a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. Robert was a long time member of the Warren County Board of Review and the Central Warren County Fire Protection District. He served many years as a director of the Monmouth Trust and Savings Bank and its successors. Robert was an initial investor in the Northwest Illinois Cable Co. and a member of the Farm Bureau. Robert enjoyed woodworking and along with Jane, built a railroad, covered bridge and log cabin on his farm west of Monmouth. He planted thousands of trees on his farms. Robert also enjoyed traveling and annual trips to Florida with Jane. Surviving are his wife, Jane Gavin, of Monmouth; one son, Timothy P. Gavin, of Champaign, Illinois; two daughters, Connie Gavin (Robert Rothacker) of Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, and Candis A. Kern (Jeff) of Martinsville, Virginia. Robert is also survived by grandchildren Amy R. Vore (Jason), Robert C. Gavin, Elizabeth A. Gavin, Benjamin P. Gavin (Anne), Kristen Gavin, and Anne, Catherine and Julia Rothacker. Great-grandchildren are Nathan, Bethany, Megan and Jacob Vore, Ayden and Eleina Thompson, and Benjamin Gavin II. Robert is also survived by his brother Donald Gavin (Bea) and sister Alice Enderlin (Larry), all of Monmouth. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Imogene and nephew Stan Gavin. Services:Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth. Interment will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Monmouth. Rosary will be said at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening with visitation to follow at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. A memorial fund is being established for Immaculate Conception Church.
