Robert "Gene" Moore, age 67, of Oquawka, Illinois; passed away at Great River Medical Center in Burlington, Iowa on Saturday March 22, 2014 at 10:05 pm. "Gene" was born on July 23,1946 in LaHarge, IL and is the son of George and Grace Brown Moore. He was raised and educated in LaHarpe where he attended school and graduated from LaHarge High School. He married Penny Sue Hull on February 25, 1972 in Burlington, Iowa, and she is surviving. Gene began work by driving a semi. He then became a mechanic and worked for Marvin Hornbaker in Blandinsville, IL at the Hornbaker Garage. He and Penny moved to Oquawka, Illinois in 1975 and they operated the Fayhee Irrigation Farm locally. Gene next began work at "Exide Battery" in Burlington, Iowa where he worked until it closed. He then began work at Farmland Foods in Monmouth where he worked for six years until his retirement in May of 2009. He is a member of the Oquawka Masonic Lodge and the Oquawka Eagles Aerie and the Bald Bluff Tractor Association. Gene collected and restored antique tractors and JI Case. He loved boating and camping. He is survived by his wife, Penny Moore of Oquawka, Illinois and one son, Kevin (Cori) Moore of Oquawka, Illinois and one daughter, Danise (Shane Taylor) Lenz of Aledo, Illinois. There are three grandchildren, Jeremy and Zachery Link, and Ashley Greer. One brother survives, Dean (Carolyn) Moore of LaHarge, IL.; and one sister, Alice Mapes of LaHarpe, IL. He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, one brother, and one grandson, Robbie Vice. Services:A funeral service will be at 10:30 am at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois on Wednesday March 26,2014. A Masonic service and visitation will be at 5:00 pm at the Turnbull Funeral Home on Tuesday evening where the family plans to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Interment will be in the Oquawka Cemetery in Oquawka, Illinois. Memorial funds have been established for the Oquawka Masonic Lodge or the Oquawka Ambulance Fund.
