Robert E. "Ike" Skees

Robert E."Ike" Skees, age 67, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at his Monmouth residence on October 2, 2018 at 10:20 pm. "Ike" was born on November 18, 1951 in Monmouth and is the son of Merlyn and Ethel L. Peterson Skees. Ike was raised in Monmouth where he attended local schools and High School. Ike was previously married to Alice Sims and later to Valorie Ludington. He married Mary Ann Hasten Stephenson on July 25, 1997 in Monmouth, Illinois and she is surviving. Ike first worked at Kellogg Printing Company of Monmouth and later was employed for a time at Galbraith Quarry, locally. He moved to Texas and was an ironworker in construction work there. After his return to Monmouth Ike continued as an iron worker for a firm near Peoria, Illinois. Ike loved shooting Pool and was most talented and participated in many area wide tournaments and even at the National Tournament level. He loved to go fishing and hunting and for a time was half owner and manager of the Market Alley Bar. Ike is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Skees of Monmouth, Illinois, and three sons, Shane Skees, Luke Skees (Tasha), and Wesley Skees, all of Roseville, Illinois. There are three step daughters, Niki Nichols (Gordy); Jessica Stephenson; and Valerie Stephenson, all of the state of Oklahoma; and one step son, Chad Skees of Peoria, Illinois. There are seven grandchildren also surviving. His sister, Terry Shamblin (Fred) of Monmouth, Illinois also survives. Ike is preceded in his death by his parents and one sister, Stacy. A memorial service is planned by the family at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth on Tuesday October 9, 2018 at 2:00 pm. Cremation has been accorded. His family plans visiting hours on Tuesday from Noon to 2:00 pm prior to the funeral service. Memorial funds have been established for the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, or the American Lung Association.
