Robert E. Shunick

Robert E. Shunick, age 81, of Ottawa, Illinois, and formerly of Monmouth, IL; passed away December 10, 2010 at the Ottawa Regional Hospital in Ottawa, Illinois at 1:30 pm. Robert was born March 9, 1929 in Monmouth, Illinois and is the son of Edward James and Marry Ellen McNamera Shunick. Robert was raised and educated in Monmouth attending Immaculate Conception School and graduating from Monmouth High School in 1947. He then received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Monmouth College in 1951. He then entered service for his country serving in the Army as a private in the Counter Intelligence Corp from 1951 to 1953. Robert married Mary Jane Blake on June 11, 1964 in Monmouth, Illinois. She preceded him in death on April 14, 2009. Robert served the Monmouth Area Chamber of Commerce as it's Executive Secretary and also held the same position for a number of years in Ottawa, Illinois. Bob was a member of and past exalted ruler of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks while in Monmouth, and also was the same, member and past exalted ruler of the B.P.O.E. in Ottawa. He was a member of the Marion B. Fletcher Post 136 in Monmouth and was fourth degree in the Knights of Columbus in Monmouth. Robert is survived by one daughter Regina Krueger of Olathe, Kansas; two granddaughters Angela Krueger Borzea (Neal) of Sioux City, Iowa and Jennifer Krueger Simon (Keith) of Olathe, Kansas. Great Grandchildren Avery, Garrett, and Laurel Borzea in Sioux City, Iowa and Isabella Simon in Olathe, Kansas. Robert has one brother surviving, John Shunick Sr. in Naperville, Illinois. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and son in law Mark Krueger. Services:A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday December 15, 2010 at 10:30 am at Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth, Illinois. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday evening at 5:00 pm at Turnbull Funeral Home, where the family plans to receive friends following the Rosary service. Interment with military honors will be St.Mary's Catholic Cemetery of Monmouth, IL.
