Robert N. Smith

Robert N. Smith, age 94, of Quincy, Illinois; formerly of Bushnell, IL passed away at the Illinois Soldiers and Sailors home in Quincy,IL on Sunday, October 22, 2017. Robert was born on June 22, 1923 in Monmouth, Illinois and is the son of Lester L. and Eunice M. VanTine Smith. He was reared and educated in Monmouth where he attended Garfield School, Monmouth High School where he graduated from in 1948. He then attended Monmouth College. Robert married Charlotte Sinclair Phillips on June 15, 1948 in Duluth, Minnesota. She preceded him in death on January 1, 1993. Robert was self employed as an automobile dealer retiring 1992. He attended the Methodist Church while he was in Bushnell, Illinois and was a member and past president of the Bushnell Rotary Club. Robert served in the Air Force during World War II and attained the rank of Corporal from 1941 to 1946. He was a member of the General Motors Dealer Council. Robert is survived by his Sons, Lloyd M. Smith of Macomb, IL and Steven C. (Gail) Smith of Eagen, Minnesota. There are two grandsons, Adam and Matthew and one granddaughter, Laura also surviving Robert is his sister, Shirley Neill of Monmouth, IL. He is preceded in his death by his parents, wife Charlotte Sinclair Smith. Visitation His family plans to gather at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, IL on Wednesday prior to the graveside service from 1:30 to 2:30 P.M. for a visitation. Graveside Funeral Service A graveside funeral service and military rites are planned for 2:30 P.M. on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Monmouth Cemetery.
