Roberta D. Manchester

Roberta D. Manchester, age 88, of Monmouth, Illinois passed away at 7:55 am on Saturday May 26, 2018 at her residence in Courtyard Estates of Monmouth. Roberta was born on April 16, 1930 in Decatur, Iowa and is the daughter of James and Emma McClaran. She was raised and educated in Decatur and Leon, Iowa where she attended local schools and graduated from Leon High School with the class of 1947. Roberta married Robert Manchester in Leon, Iowa on May 21, 1950. Roberta was a homemaker in her own home and loved nature and the outdoors. She enjoyed Golf and was a member of Monmouth Country Club, she loved taking care of her garden and was a member of the local "Bottoms Up Club". She is a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Monmouth, the YMCA, and the Auxiliary of Community Memorial Hospital and OSF Holy Family Medical Center. Roberta also loved to play bridge and was a member of many bridge clubs locally. Surviving her is her daughter, Rebecca and Wiley Carlson of Hampton, Illinois and her grandson, Ryan and Berenice Carlson of Palatine, Illinois. Also surviving is her sister in law, Carolyn McClaran of Phoenix, AZ. and a special friend, Shirley Meyers of Monmouth, IL. She is preceded in her death by her parents, husband Robert, and her brother, David McClaran. Cremation is being accorded, and a memorial service is planned at First United Methodist Church on Friday June 1, 2018 at 11:00am. Her family plans to receive friends after the funeral service at the First United Methodist Church and her ashes will be interred at a later date. A memorial fund is being established for either the Warren County Y or First United Methodist Church in Monmouth, IL.
