Rodney L. Young, age 56, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at 2:52 pm at Trinity West in Rock Island, Illinois on February 25, 2010. Rodney was born on May 23, 1953 in Bloomington, Illinois and is the son of George K and Helen L. Geltmacher Young. Young was raised in Monmouth where he attended local schools and graduated from Monmouth High School. He then attended Carl Sandburg College where he received his certification in food service. Rodney served in the United States Army as a General's Aide during Viet Nam. He was married to Charlotte Mills on October 25, 1975 in Monmouth, Illinois. Rodney first worked at Southard Tree Service doing tree trimming for a time. He then worked as a Chef at Melings Restaurant of Monmouth for a number of years. He was a year working in food service at the Metropolitan Federal Correctional Prison in Chicago, then was with the Monmouth College food service for several years. Rodney's last employment was as a farm hand for Gene and Fred Crandall family farms until 2001. He was a member of the Monmouth Volunteer Fire Department for more than twenty years, and also a member of the Auxiliary Police. He is the founder of the Warren County Weather Spotters and has done such until the present. He is one of the founders of the Cedar Creek Amateur Radio Society. He is of the Methodist faith. Rodney enjoyed hunting, fishing, amatuer radio, weather, and volunteering to help with many projects. He is survived by his wife, Cher Young of Monmouth, his sons Michael T. Young of Monmouth and Brian L. Young ( Amber ) of Lewistown, Missouri. One Granddaughter survives McKenzie Katherine Young. His mother survives Helen L. Glenn of Monmouth, and his sister Debra K. Young of Knoxville, Illinois. He is preceded in his death by his father, George K. Young and Step father Paul Glenn. Services:A gathering of family and friends will be from 9:00 to 11:00 am on Wednesday March 3rd at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. A service and military honors will be presented at 11:00 am. A celebration of his life will follow at the "Downtown Cafe" immediately afterwards. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established for the "Warren County Weather Spotters "
