Roger M. Donnelly

Roger Merrill Donnelly, 67, of Knoxville, Illinois, passed away at 2:19 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.

Roger was born November 18, 1958, the son of Robert L. Donnelly and Karon P. (Baldwin) Donnelly. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1977 and later attended and graduated from the University of Arizona.

Roger worked in office and marketing for Maytag before his retirement. He proudly served his country in the United States Army.

Roger is survived by his significant other of over 15 years, Barbie Thomas of Galesburg, along with his son, Aaron Donnelly of Macomb, Illinois; Barbie’s son, Ryan (Sunshine Johnson) Thomas of Galesburg; his brother, Steve (Rebecca) Donnelly of Galesburg; three grandchildren, Isaiah Thomas, Isaac Thomas, and Isla Rose Thomas; and two sisters-in-law, Linda Donnelly and Peggy Donnelly both of Galesburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Robert, Ronald and Russell.

Roger enjoyed wrestling, baseball and football while in high school, but some of his favorite times were the simple ones—cooking out, having a beer and spending time with friends. He also enjoyed trying his luck at the poker machines. Roger tended to keep to himself, but he valued the people close to him and the time they shared together.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 18, 2026, at East Linwood Cemetery in Galesburg, with Deacon Michael Crummer officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Knox County Honor Guard. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the Knox County Humane Society.
