Ronald L. Higdon

Ronald L. Higdon, age 66,of Biggsville, passed away at 3:25 a.m., Sunday, February 21, 2010, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Ia. He was born on October 22, 1943, in Delavan, Ill., the son of Raymond H. and L. Gertrude Pullium Higdon. Ronald was reared and educated in central Illinois and moved to LaHarpe in 1959. He graduated from LaHarpe High School, and then went on to business college in Burlington, Ia. Ronald married Mary Ellen Detrick in Nashua, Ia. on May 18 1963, she preceded him in May 7, 1998. Ronald first worked at Georgia Pacific for 15 years. He then was the owner of the R & M Grocery Store in Biggsville, Ill. Finally he went to work at Motorola in Mt. Pleasant, Ia. as a quality control auditor. Ronald enjoyed the St. Louis Cardinals, Illini Basketball, and Chicago Bears Football. He attended Rozetta Baptist Church. Surviving Ronald are two daughters; Robin Higdon-Fleming (Robert) of Davenport, Ia. and Christine Fechner of Gladstone, Ill. Two brothers; James Higdon (Sue) of San Jose, Ill., and Robert Higdon (Carolyn) of Franklin, Ill. Also surviving is one granddaughter, Felisha Fechner and his mother, L. Gertrude Higdon Jones of San Jose, Ill. He was preceded in death by his father, and two brothers; Kenneth & Raymond Higdon, and one sister, Yvonne Eyrse. Services:A funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. His family will be present from 11 a.m. till the time of service to receive friends at the Funeral Home. Cremation will be accorded following the service. Interment of his ashes will be in Biggsville Cemetery at a later date. A memorial fund is being established for the Diabetes Foundation or Rozetta Baptist Church.
