Rose C. "Rosie" McCleary, age 86, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 8:38 am on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at Monmouth Nursing Home. She was born in the family home in Henderson County on November 18, 1928, the daughter of Anthony and Teresa (Hagan) McCleary. Rosie attended grade school at Barry Grade School in Media, Illinois and high school at St. Mary Academy in Nauvoo, Illinois. Rosie was a nanny and caretaker for several families in and around Monmouth. She worked several years for Judge Lewis Murphy as housekeeper and caregiver for his mother. She also worked at the Immaculate Conception Rectory for Monsignor Prendergast and Father John Padlashes. She was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Church and a member of the Altar Rosary Society. Rosie loved to cook. She was known for her excellent meals and loved to host family gatherings and see all of her nieces and nephews. She loved to visit and socialize with everyone. Rosie very much enjoyed the company of her special friend, Mary Francis Smith of Monmouth. Rosie is survived by her sister, Josie (late Robert) Buckley of Monmouth, brother Joseph (Dolores) McCleary of Monmouth, seven nieces and four nephews also are surviving. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister-in-law, Patrick and Jean McCleary, and sister and brother-in-law Margaret and Bob Lee. Services:A funeral Mass is planned for 10:00 am on Friday, August 28, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth, Illinois. A Rosary will be held at 5:00 pm on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Her family will receive friends after the Rosary at the funeral home. Interment will follow the Mass at St. Patrick Cemetery in Raritan, Illinois. Memorials are being established for the Monmouth Nursing Home or Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth.
