Roy N. Cooper, age 87, of Kirkwood, Illinois, passed away at 6:07 AM on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Woodridge Nursing Home in Galesburg, Illinois. He was born on January 10, 1930 in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of Ira and Bertha (Schnedler) Cooper. Roy was raised and educated in the Matherville, Illinois area. Roy proudly served his Country during the Korean War as a Seabee with the United States Navy. On March 24, 1954, he married Edna Smith in Burlington, Iowa and she preceded him in death on April 22, 2013. Roy work as a lineman for Illinois Power. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He enjoyed fishing and attending auctions. Roy is survived by two sons; Ronnie (Lauri) Cooper of Galesburg, Illinois and Gary (Marcia) Cooper of Monmouth, Illinois, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two sisters, one brother, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, one granddaughter, three sisters, and five brothers. Memorial Service As were Roy's wishes, cremation is being accorded. A graveside memorial service with military honors will be held at a later date. A memorial fund is being established for the Lindsey Cooper Memorial Fund.
