Russel U. Lydic, age 88, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at 7:35 am on Saturday May 7, 2011 at the Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Russel was born on November 7, 1922 in Egan, South Dakota and is the son of Jess and Viola Bigham Lydic. Russel, as a boy, came to Cameron, IL where he was raised and educated attending "Muddy Corners" rural school and a rural school near Roseville, IL Russel enlisted and served in the Army Air Force during World War II. He served in the 163rd Signal Corp in Belgium and France and landed with the forces at Normandy. He first married Ann Dixon. He then was married to Argyle Thurman Clark on May 25, 1973 in Cameron, Illinois. She is currently surviving. Russel was an independent trucker operating "Russel Lydic Trucking" hauling livestock and grain locally for many years. He also was a DX bulk distributor in the area for many years. He is a life long member of Cameron Christian Church for over 75 years and served on the church board. He also was active in and served on the Floyd Township board for many years. He is a member of Tri-State Trucking Association and is a member of the Marion B. Fletcher Post 136 of the American Legion. Russel loved his time in the military and the Cameron Community. He often coached softball teams in the Junior Sheriff's Leaque of Cameron. He enjoyed camping, mushrooming and his hobbies included deer hunting and fishing. Of course his family always camer first and was often quoted saying " I live at the Lake but my heart was in Cameron." He was an AVID Cardinals baseball fan and sports enthusiast. Surviving Russel is his wife Argyle Lydic of Monmouth, and one son Paul ( Diane ) Lydic of Monmouth, Illinois, and three granddaughters Cheri Gipson, Jaimey and Jessica Lydic. There are three great granddaughters Samantha and Calli Mason, and Christian Williams. Two brothers also survive, Jess (Betty) Lydic of Avon, Illinois and Lowell (Nancy) Lydic of Cedar, Kansas and one sister Harriet Rusk if Galesburg, IL There are a number of nieces and nephews also surviving. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother James and his wife Shirley Lydic, a step son Bill Clark, niece Rita Andrews, and Nephew Jim Lydic. Services:A funeral service will be at 1:00 pm on Wednesday May 11th at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Interment will be in Silent Home Cemetery in Cameron. His family plans visitation receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday evening at Turnbull Funeral Home. A memorial fund is established for either Gerlaw Christian Church or the Cameron Christian Church.
