Russell E. Furnald, age 58, of Gladstone, Illinois, passed away at 4:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2009, at his residence. Russell was born on March 9, 1951, in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Delbert and Gail Huss Furnald, Sr. Russell was raised and educated in the Gladstone area and graduated from Union High School. Russell married Pamela Johnson on September 8, 1973, in Gladstone. She survives. Russell worked at Maytag in Galesburg for 32 years retiring in 2005. Russell also enjoyed working at the Twomey Company for a time. He was a volunteer fireman for the Gladstone Fire Department. Russell enjoyed wood working, his garden pond, working in the yard and loved his John Deere mower and their cat Sammie. Russell enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews. Surviving is his wife Pam Furnald of Gladstone, his mother Gail Furnald in Oquawka, Ill., one sister Janet McCann and Joe, three brothers, Delbert Furnald, Jr. and Reita, Jim Furnald and Karen and Bruce Furnald and Nancy all of Oquawka. Also surviving are 14 nieces and nephews and 33 great nieces and nephews and several aunts and uncles. Russell is preceded in death by his father. Delbert Furnald, Sr. Services:A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 13. 2009, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka. Interment will be in the Oquawka Cemetery. His family will be present to receive friends on Sunday evening, July 12, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Turnbull's in Oquawka. A memorial fund is being established for the Gladstone Fire Department and Ambulance Service.
