Russell D. Miner, Sr. of Monmouth, Illinois passed away at 2:00 am on Tuesday May 14, 2013 at the Monmouth Nursing Home. "Russ" was born on June 25, 1935 in Davenport, Iowa and is the son of Franklin Benjamin and Averil Marie Douglas Miner. He was raised in Rock Island where he attended local schools and high school. Russ then earned his G. E. D. He was married to Clara Anna Guldenpfennig on June 29, 1957 in Andalusia, Illinois. She is surviving. Russell first worked at Alton Box in Galesburg, Illinois and then was employed in Peoria, Illinois at American Courier Corporation. He then worked in the Street Department for the City of Monmouth and also the City of Stronghurst, Illinois. Russ is a member of the Stronghurst Lions Club and the Countryside Bible Church of Monmouth. Russell enjoyed fishing and hunting and loved to play the guitar. In earlier years he played in a local band called " the Fugitives " He is survived by his wife Clara Miner of Monmouth, and two daughters Cheryl Miner (Steve) of Aledo, IL. and Laurie Denning of Franklin, Kentucky. Three sons survive, Ben (Tammy) Miner of Kalispell, Montana, Russell (Lori) Miner Jr.of Monmouth, Illinois and Will ( Patty ) Miner of Oquawka, Illinois. There are ten grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. One sister survives, Patricia Wiedekher, and on brother Larry Miner, both of Springfield, Ohio. He is preceded in his death by his parents, one son Virgil Miner, and two brothers, Frank and Richard Miner. Services:A funeral service will be on Saturday May 18, 2013 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois at 1:30 pm. Interment will be in the Monmouth Cemetery. Friends may call after NOON on Saturday May 18, at Turnbulls where his family will receive friends for the hour prior to the funeral service from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. A memorial fund is being established by his family and is to be designated at a later date.
