Russell L. " Rusty " Lox, age 88, of Oquawka, Illinois; passed away at his Oquawka residence on May 1, 2025 at 11:25 pm. Rusty was born on May 12, 1936 in Gladstone, Illinois and is the son of Lucius and Catherine Colley Lox. He was raised in Gladstone, Illinois where he attended local school and graduated from G & O High School in the class of 1955. Rusty married Dixie Bielser on April 25, 1959 in the Gladstone Church of Gladstone, and she is surviving. For over fifty years, Rusty has been a "Brick Layer" his entire career employed by Local Union 538 out of Galesburg, Illinois. Rusty helped build the monument dedicated to Norma Jean Elephant who died and was buried in Oquawka, Illinois. He also helped build the tennis courts in Oquawka and was involved with a number of other community projects. He and Dixie also were awarded the " Citizens of the Year " in Oquawka. He loved to fish, hunt, work in his garden, plowing snow and mushroom hunting. Most of all he liked doing work and projects for his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Dixie of Oquawka, Illinois and four daughters, Alice Meyer and Darren of Oquawka, Illinois, Melinda Connolly and Dewayne of Wapello, Iowa, Lisa Bartlett and Craig of Edwardsville, Illinois and Bert Lox of Oquawka, Illinois. There are seven grandchildren twenty-one great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren who survive. Rusty's sister is surviving, Beverly Alecock of Oquawka, Illinois. He is preceded in his death by his parents, three sisters, and six brothers.
Turnbull Funeral Home in charge of Rusty's care and cremation rites are being accorded. Currently a memorial visitation at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, is being planned by his family on Monday May 12, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.. Memorial funds have been established for either the Oquawka Ambulance Service or the Oquawka Fire Department.
