Ruth V. Peel

Ruth Veda Peel, age 84, of Kirkwood, IL., passed away in the Emergency Room at OSF Holy Family Medical Center on August 7, 2014 at 2:10 pm. Ruth was born on May 20, 1930 in Berwick, Illinois and is the daughter of Bill Franklin and Mary Elizabeth Morse Hanley. She was raised in Monmouth where she attended public schools and received her General Education Degree. Ruth married Floyd Joseph Peel on January 5, 1948 in Oquawka, Illinois. He preceded her in death February 12, 1996. Ruth first worked at Melings Restaurant, at Western Stoneware, and then Illinois Pork Corp., all in Monmouth, Illinois. She then worked for a time at Weir's Fruit Farm in Henderson County and lastly worked side by side with her daughter, Janet at Pride and Groom in Burlington, Iowa. Ruth enjoys gardening, Bingo, blackberry picking, doing garage sales, and going to the casino. She loved to go to family gatherings at Crapo Park in Burlington, playing cards, marbles, and the game of croquet. Ruth is survived by two daughters, Janet (Steve) Earp of Biggsville, IL and Mary (Roger) Barton of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. There are four sons, Ralph (Bess) Peel of Kirkwood, IL; Ora (Tammy) Peel of Roseville, IL.; Paul (Robin) Peel of Kirkwood, IL.; and Jeff (Teresa) Peel of Little York, IL. There are 23 Grandchildren and 36 Great Grandchildren surviving. She is preceded in her death by her parents, husband, three sons, two daughters, one great grandson, four brothers and four sisters. Services:A graveside service and interment will be at 10:30 am on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at the Biggsville Cemetery in Biggsville, Illinois. Her family plans visitation at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth on Monday evening and will be present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm to receive their friends. A memorial fund is being established for the Schlotzhaurer Nursing Home in Oquawka, Illinois.
