Ruth Lucille Meyer Shauman, 89, passed away on May 9, 2009 at Monmouth Nursing Home. She was born Jan. 23, 1920 at her grandparents' home Jack's Mill near Oquawka; the daughter of John Carl and Bessie Radmacher Meyer. She married J.M. "Mac" Shauman on Sept. 17, 1944 at the fireside of her parent's home in Rosetta. For 61 years, they made their home as farmers near Kirkwood, IL. A graduate of Liberty School Rozetta, and Biggsville H.S., Ruth worked at Thompson Motors in Monmouth before she married. Later she had a 25 year career at The First National Bank of Monmouth, now Midwest Bank. She was the first woman teller, the first drive up window teller and secretary to the president. Ruth was known for her friendly smile and her accuracy. In addition she was the first woman from Warren Co. Farm Bureau on a Leaders to Washington legislative tour in 1986. Ruth was dedicated to her church. Over the years, Ruth served in every capacity at Westminster U.P. Church, Kirkwood, from Sunday school teacher to elder and organist. Ruth and Mac loved their family, farming and traveling. They saw much of the Western US on visits to their daughter Judy in Utah and Washington. In later years, they also enjoyed bus vacations with their friends. Ruth had deep roots in Warren and Henderson counties. She is survived by her two children Wendell (Janet) Shauman of Kirkwood, and Judy (Dan) Filip of Olympia, WA, Grandchildren Austin Shauman, Toledo, Oh., Janelle Larimer (James Dodds), Kirkwood, Michael Shauman (Jessica Beswick), Milwaukee, and Carrie Filip (Paul) Bland, of Ellensburg, WA, Four great-grandchildren, Sadie and Jeff Shauman, Monmouth, Alexis Shauman, Seaton, and Jordan Reeder, Kirkwood, and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her sister Marcelyn Miller, Monmouth and sister-in-law Phyllis Shauman, Biggsville. Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, "Mac", her parents, and her brother Glen Services:Visitation will be on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 at Turnbulls Funeral Home in Monmouth. A funeral service will be at the Westminster U.P. Church, Kirkwood, on May 14th at 10 AM. Interment will be in the Center Grove Cemetery in Kirkwood, Illinois. Memorial funds have been established for either Westminster United Presbyterian Church or the Monmouth Nursing Home.. Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth is in charge of the arrangements.
