Ruth E. Simpson, age 84, of Oquawka, passed away at 1:55 p.m., Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at the Monmouth Nursing Home. She was born on April 28, 1926 in Seaton, Ill., the daughter of William and Jessie Needham Watts. Ruth attended Keithsburg schools. She married William E. Simpson in Gladstone, Ill., on February 28, 1948, he preceded her in death on November 21, 1977. Ruth was a homemaker and worked for many years as a bartender at Anna's Village Tap in Milan, Ill. She enjoyed yard work, flowers, and reading. Her biggest hobby was worrying about her family. She was a past member of the Milan American Legion. Surviving Ruth are her children; Ivan Bennett (Paula) of Monmouth, Cherrie A. Spimpson of Newburg, Mo., William E. Simpson (Karen) of Elkins, Ark., Lon E. Simpson (Lana) of Monmouth, Randy L. Simpson (Cindy) of Monmouth, and Rhona K. Simpson of Oquawka, Ill. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren. Ruth had ten siblings. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her great granddaughter Kirsten Simpson. Services:A funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Ill. Interment will be in Oquawka Cemetery. Her family will be present to receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Turnbulls in Oquawka. A memorial fund has been established for Monmouth Nursing Home.
