Sam D. Howell, age 62, of Monmouth, passed away at 1:00 a.m., Friday, February 27, 2009, at his residence. Sam was born on December 20, 1946 in Monmouth. He is the son of Price and Mildred Kissick Durr. Sam was reared and educated in the Monmouth area, and attended Monmouth Public schools. Sam served in the United States Army during the Viet Nam war, and he was very proud of his service to his country. He married Sandra K. Pierce on August 29, 1981 in Monmouth, she survives. Sam was an avid hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed playing bingo. He was a very social person, he never knew a stranger. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of the Monmouth J.W. Clendenin V.F.W. Post 2301. Sam is survived by his wife Sandra Howell of Monmouth, three step children; Susan Trego, Jake VanSkike, and Jerimy VanSkike all of Monmouth, six step grandchildren, one great grandson Tieson, three sisters; Jean Shamblin and Walt, Betty Vancil, and Sandra Lant and Lawrence all of Monmouth. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and six brothers. Services:A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 5-7 p.m., where his family will be present to receive friends. Memorials can be made to Community Hospices of America.
