Shirley A. Austin

Shirley Ann Austin, age 87, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 2:24 AM on Monday, December 30, 2019 at Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth, Illinois. She was born on December 29, 1932 in Nauvoo, Illinois, the daughter of Ernest and Pearl (Mosley) Moesch. Shirley attended school in Carthage, Illinois. On February 16, 1951, she married James Austin in Carthage, Illinois and he preceded her in death on June 30, 2000. Shirley provided daycare in her home for several years. She later worked for Tim Healtherly Plumbing in Monmouth. Shirley loved painting and listening to music.

Shirley is survived by three daughters, Kathy (Tim) Heatherly, Marcia (Jim) Cokel, and Kris (Jerry) Kinney, all of Monmouth, Illinois, ten grandchildren; Lt. Col. Chris (Molly) Heatherly, Jennie (Doug) Harned, Kim (Joe) Jensen, Abbie (Jordan) McAdams, Stephanie (Chad) Christensen, Mike (Andrea) Cokel, Jill Cokel, Alli Cokel, Kaitlyn (Joel Gardner) Kinney, and Justin Kinney. Seventeen great-grandchildren are also surviving. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim, son Scott, two sisters; Louise Stevenson and Lois Strong, one brother, Charles Moesch, and three great-grandchildren; Elliott Jensen, James Cokel, and Grayson Sage.

A funeral service for Shirley Austin will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:30 AM prior to the service at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Warren County Memorial Park in Monmouth. A memorial fund is being established for the Monmouth Nursing Home.
