Shirley S. Darnell

Shirley S. Darnell, age 57, of Oquawka, Ill.; passed away at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, Ill., on December 17, 2007 at 3:32 am. Shirley was born on November 21, 1950 in Monmouth, Ill. and is the daughter of Chester R. and Lois Bridges McCoy. Shirley was reared and educated in Gladstone, Ill. where she attended and graduated from Gladstone High School. Shirley was married to John D. Darnell. Shirley was employed thirty-one years on the line at Maytag Corporation in Galesburg, and was currently retired. She enjoyed camping and fishing, and enjoyed being a member of the "High Rollers" Club of Catfish Bend and Harrah's. Shirley is survived by her Mother Lois E. McCoy of Knoxville, Ill., and her daughter Faunda R. Reed and Rodney also of Knoxville. Shirley's son J. Jason Darnell and his life partner, Cory are surviving in LaSalle, Ill. Three Grandchildren Johnathan, Nathaniel, and Mason are surviving. Shirley's significant other, Ronnie Baker with whom she resided, survives and lives in Oquawka. Three Sisters Jeannette Pence and Larry of Lomax, Ill., Barbara Howell and Jim of Brooksville, Florida; and Bonnie McCoy of Monmouth. One Brother Gary McCoy and Marge of Monmouth. A number of Nieces and Nephews, and other relatives also survive. Preceding Shirley in her death are her Father and One Sister Betty Thorndike. Services:A funeral service will be at 10:30 am Thursday Dec. 20, 2007 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth with interment in the Avon Cemetery in Avon, Ill. Friends may call at on Wednesday after Noon and Thursday at Turnbull Funeral Home where her family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday evening. A memorial fund is being established for the American Lung Association.
