Shirley A. Mcvey

Shirley A. McVey, age 78, of Monmouth, Ill., passed away at 9:05 a.m. on Sunday August 9, 2009 at the OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Ill. Shirley was born July 11, 1931 in Monmouth, the daughter of Gerald S. and Alice E. Arendt Kelley. Shirley was raised and educated in Monmouth and attended Monmouth Public Schools. Shirley married Richard H. McVey on October 18, 1950 in Monmouth. He preceded her in death on September 9, 2000. Shirley was a homemaker in her own home. Shirley first worked at Gambles Store in Monmouth. Shirley was a seamstress at Smolers and later worked at Glastex Boat Factory. Lastly she worked at Harding School in the lunch room. She loved bingo and going to the boat, knitting and making baby blankets. She was a "die-hard" Cub Fan. Her greatest joy was her family, home and grandchildren. Shirley is survived by two daughters Judy A. Raes ( Gene) of Monmouth, and Mary A. Raes (Lonne) of Smithshire, Ill., two sons, Richard H. McVey, Jr. (Joan) of Kingsport, Tennessee and Jimmy L. McVey (Colleen) of Monmouth. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter, two sisters Donna Reyburn and Gene of Monmouth, and Peggy Redding and Lee of Marquette Heights, Ill., and one brother Phillip Kelley of Monmouth and numerous nieces and nephews. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard, three brothers and two sisters. Services:A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2009, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Shirley family will be present to receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Turnbull's. on Thursday evening. Interment will be in the Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established for OSF Hospice in Galesburg, Ill.
