Shirley Jean Noel

Shirley J. Noel, age 76, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at 10:35 pm at her Monmouth residence on October 30, 2018. Shirley was born on November 6, 1941 in Kirkwood, Illinois and she is the daughter of Herman and Lucille Hawk Vestal. Shirley was raised in the rural Kirkwood are where she attended the Ellison rural school and the Kirkwood High School. Shirley graduated from the Biggsville High School. She then attended Carl Sandburg where she received certification as a beautician in 1977. Shirley was first married to Richard L. Cole and later was married to Michael L. Noel on October 11, 1980 in Biggsville, Illinois. He is surviving. She began work as a nurses aide at Monmouth Nursing Home for a time, then was a line person at Wilson Foods of Monmouth, for a number of years. After that Shirley styled hair and was a beautician in her own home until her sight started to fail. Shirley then was a mother and grandmother to her children and family. She loved to collect antiques, play slot machines, and take care of her garden and yard. Shirley is survived by her husband, Michael L. Noel of Monmouth, Illinois and three daughters, Lisa (Tony) Ramirez of Bloomington, Illinois; Lori (Brian) Kane of Galesburg, Illinois; and Lana (Lonnie) Simpson of Monmouth, Illinois. There is one son surviving, Richard (Jennifer) Cole of Monmouth, Illinois. There are nine grandchildren surviving, Jennifer and Luci Ramirez, Alex (Ashley) Kane, Breena (Joe) Hoskins, Kayla (Trevor) Glisan, Derek (Bre) Kane, Melinda (Joe) Hargis, Lexi and Angie Cole and numerous great grand children also surviving. One brother also survives, Glenn (Cindy) Vestal of Oquawka, Illinois and a number of other relatives. She is preceded in her death by her parents, one son, Jeff, two sisters, Barb and Connie, and one brother, Dick. A Mass of the Christian Burial is planned at 10:30 am on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth, Illinois. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery. Her family plans visitation on Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Memorial funds have been established for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or AMVETS.
