Stephen D. Jones, Sr., age 61, of Oquawka, Illinois, passed away at home after a short battle with cancer on Friday, September 26, 2008 at 10:45 a.m. Steve was born on May 10, 1947, in Monmouth, Illinois, the son of Howard and Lucile Lisenbee Jones. Steve was raised in the Rozetta area attending Rozetta School and Union High School in Biggsville, Illinois. Steve married Joyce Henshaw on December 19, 1964 in Biggsville, Illinois. Steve first started working as a journeyman lineman for Miller Construction in Vincennes, Ind. and later at Edwards Construction in Decatur. He earned his journeyman lineman certification from Iowa Southern Utilities in Burlington, Iowa. He returned to Rozetta and established Rozetta Electric. He then bought Thompson Septic Service in 1984 which continues to this present day with his son Doran as Jones Septic Service. Steve enjoyed going to the boat and working and his family. He was formerly a member of the Oquawka Masonic Lodge. Steve is survived by his wife Joyce in Oquawka, daughter, Corina and Tim White of Oquawka, two sons, Stephen, Jr. and Molly of Rural Oquawka and Doran and Star Jones of Oquawka, nine grandchildren, Hailey, Alicia, Bruce, Shelby, Janessa, Jacob, Gage, Trevor and Ashley, two sisters, Janice Davis of Rozetta and Pat and Dan McVey of Little York, Ill., two brothers, Loren and Shirley Jones and Michael and Mollie Jones both of Eugene, Oregon. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, one niece and one nephew. Services:A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 29, 2008, at the Rozetta Cemetery. No calling hours or family visitation are planned. A memorial fund is being established for Henderson County Relay for Life.
