Steven R. "Dick" Miller, age 64, of Monmouth, passed away at 1:23 a.m., Friday, June 25, 2010 at the Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth. He was born on January 27, 1946 in Monmouth, the son of Joseph L. and Dorothy P. Murphy Miller. He was reared and educated in Monmouth and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1964. Steven served in the Untied States Navy during the Vietnam War from 1964 to 1968. He worked for 12 years as a prison guard in Oklahoma, drove a truck, and was a welder. "Dick" also worked at Butler Manufacturing in Galesburg. Surviving "Dick" are his sons; Aaron Miller (Tiffany) of Cedar Rapids, Ia. and Michael Miller (Sarrah) of Sherrard, Ill. Four grandchildren Maddie, Logan, Aaron and Faith Miller. Also surviving is his Brother, Larry Miller, and one niece Vicki Miller and one Nephew, Paul Miller of Grand Rapids, Mi. "Dick" wanted to leave a special note with all, "In the movie Forrest Gump his mother told him life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what your going to get. How true this is, I got Cancer. To my friends and family I leave behind be kind and love one another, may you have health and happiness, because life is to short, trust me I know. That's all Folks! - Dick" He was preceded in death by his parents. Services:A committal of his ashes will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 2, 2010, at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery in Rock Island, Ill. No visitation his planned.
