Sue Elaine Griffitts, 79, of Galesburg, Illinois, died at home, Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
“Momma Sue” as she was affectionately called, was born August 1, 1946 in Mendota, Illinois, the daughter of Arthur Dale and Doris Irene (Harris) Perrine. Sue graduated from Bushnell-Prairie City High School in 1964. She later met and married Danny Dale Griffitts on April 24, 1971 in Galesburg.
Sue is survived by her husband of 55 years, Danny of Galesburg; their two children, Dale (Bobbi) Griffitts and Kari (Cory) Haneghan, both of Galesburg. Sue is also survived by two brothers, Tom (Bob Baskerville) Perrine of Des Moines, Iowa and David Perrine of Galesburg; three nieces, Molly (Bubba) Manuel of Chickasha, Oklahoma, Angie Mason of Bradley, Oklahoma, and Kerastin (Dwayne) Walters of Canton, Illinois; one nephew, Kraig (Ashley) Griffitts of Bushnell, Illinois; and one step granddaughter, Rebellion. Sue was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Mary Goucher.
Sue worked as a clerk for BNSF from 1967 until she retired in 2006, completing 39 years of dedicated service. Sue enjoyed spending time at home feeding the squirrels, being with her family, and quietly working on word searches. She was fascinated by hot air balloons and loved to watch the weather and share reports with family and friends. Sue was a giant fan of Jason Momoa (with whom she shared a birthday) and had a love hate relationship with frogs. When her mom died at a young age, Sue took over duties of the house raising her three younger siblings. Although young herself this was a duty Sue was deeply devoted to.
In accordance with Sue’s requests, cremation will be accorded and no services are planned. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
