Teresa J. Commean

Teresa Jane Commean, 71, of Galesburg, Illinois, died peacefully Sunday, September 27, 2026.

Teresa was born November 25, 1954 in Macomb, Illinois, the daughter of Marion W. and Marilyn J. (Hayes) Smith. She graduated from Galesburg High School and married Bruce “Butch” W. Commean on November 26, 1975 in Galesburg. Butch preceded Teresa in death on October 23, 2000.

Teresa is survived by one daughter, Kristi (Beecher) Sykes of Galesburg; a brother, Doug (Dawn) Welch of Galesburg; a sister-in-law, Joyce Commean of Galesburg; and two nephews, Jeremy (Hailey) Cardenas of Galesburg and Tanner Smith of Galesburg. Teresa is also survived by her two grandchildren, Ky Dickerson and Jayce Dickerson; one great granddaughter, Violet Welch, her special grandchildren, Lucas (Chloe) Welch, Gabby Walters, Jordan (Bryan) Sego, and Alexandria Sykes; a special niece, Andrea (Chad) Reed and their children, Morgan Reed, Kylie Reed, Easton Reed, Caiden Dougherty, and Rylan Dougherty. Along with her husband, Teresa was preceded in death by her parents.

Teresa spent most of her years as a homemaker, volunteering many hours at schools, carrying on to her grandchildren. She was a fixture at Gale School for many years. She was deeply devoted to her family, caring for them in any way possible. She had an adventurous spirit and was a longtime member of the Corvette Club, and was active in racing corvettes and jeeps for several years. Teresa and Butch also enjoyed riding their motorcycles.

Visitation will be 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 3, 2026 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg, with funeral services following at 11:00 a.m. Deacon Michael Crummer will officiate.
