Theodore F Mettler

Theodore F. Mettler, age 63, of Monmouth, Illinois passed away at 10:45 pm on August 26, 2010 at OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth, Illinois. Ted was born on June 14, 1947 in Monmouth and is the son of Theodore F and Estella A Chewning Mettler. He was raised in Monmouth and attended local schools and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1965. Ted entered the Army and served in Viet Nam attaining the rank of E 5. He was married to Estelle Rose Underwood on March 28, 1969 in Monmouth, Illinois. Ted began working at Well's Pet Food in Monmouth where he learned the art of Welding. He then worked for a time at Butler Manufacturing in Galesburg, until entering service. After his return from service he worked for School District 38 as a custodian at Garfield Elementary. Ted's main job began in 1973 with Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railroad as a welder and grinder. He was a member of the Maintenance of Way and retired from the Panel Plant in June of 2007. He is survived by his wife Rose Mettler of Monmouth, and two children. His daughter Laura (Dirk) Hippen of Monmouth, and son Jeremiah (Aimi) Mettler of Cameron, North Carolina. Nine grandchildren also survive. He has one sister Linda Groves of Monmouth, IL and two brothers Jack L. (Pat) Mettler of New London, Iowa and Jeff A Mettler of Monmouth, IL. Numerous Nieces and Nephews also survive. He is preceded in death by his Parents. Services:Cremation is being accorded. A memorial service will be on Thursday September 2, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Turnbull Funeral Home. No hours for visitation are being planned by the family.
