Velma Mae Henshaw, age 91 of Oquawka, Illinois, passed away at 3:23 am on Friday, September 12, 2014 at her residence in Oquawka. She was born in Bald Bluff, Illinois on August 19, 1923, the daughter of Edward and Anna Mae (Skull) Simpson. She was reared and educated in the area. On November 4, 1939, Velma married Harold Wilson Henshaw in Kahoka, MO. Harold preceded her in death on March 9, 2010. Velma was a homemaker her entire life. She loved being near her children and her family. Velma enjoyed reading and working with floral arrangements. She was instrumental in "keeping her children in line". Velma is survived by three daughters; Dixie Bigger of Biggsville, Joyce Jones of Oquawka, and Nancy Henshaw of Oquawka; three sons; Jack L. (Roberta) Henshaw of Oquawka, Allen R. (Elaine) Henshaw of Keithsburg, and Jay W. (Amy) Henshaw of Oquawka; one sister, Marjorie (Jim) Joyner of Oquawka. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter Carol Elaine, one brother, two sisters, and one granddaughter Amber "BooBoo". Services:A funeral service is planned for Monday, September 15, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. Her family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 pm prior to the service. A memorial fund is being established for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
