Velma "Dick" L. Meyer

Velma L. "Dick" Meyer, age 92, of Oquawka, Illinois, passed away at 11:05 a.m. on Friday, February 15, 2008, at her residence. She was born on October 9, 1915, in Oakville, Iowa the daughter of Rolen and Emma Lister Simmons. She attended Henderson County Schools. Velma married Lloyd William (Flunky) Meyer on January 5, 1938 in Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death on April 5, 1989. Velma and her husband owned and operated a produce market and truck garden in Oquawka for 43 years. In years past she ironed laundry for numerous people and washed dust mops for Henderson County Court House. Velma enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, Bingo and Marshmallow fights. She loved spending time with her family at special gatherings. Velma is survived by two daughters, Janice (Charles )Bundy of Oquawka and Peggy (James) Tharp of Biggsville, Illinois, five sons Kent Meyer, Keith Meyer, Wayne (Susan) Meyer, Dean (Laura) Meyer and Mike Meyer all of Oquawka. Also surviving are 8 grandsons and 3 granddaughters, 10 great grandsons and 6 great granddaughters, and one great, great grandson. She is preceded in death by her parents, and husband. Services:A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka. Interment will be in the Oquawka Cemetery, Oquawka. The family will be present to receive friends at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka on Monday, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A memorial fund is being established to be determined later.
