Velma Marcella "Vi" Reeder

Velma Marcella "Vi" Reeder, age 96, of Oquawka, Illinois, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2013 at 9:00 am at the Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab Center in Stronghurst, Illinois. She was born on March 30, 1917 in Gerlaw, Illinois, the daughter of Harve and Anna (Smith) Olson. She received her education in the Monmouth Schools. Velma married Robert G. Reeder on August 18, 1936 in Monmouth, Illinois and he preceded her in death on October 11, 1995. For a time, she worked out of her home as a telephone operator. Velma was an active member of the Oquawka United Methodist Church and involved in the U.M.W. Circle. She taught Sunday School for over 30 years. Velma's love of her Church was an important part of her life. She very much enjoyed working in her garden and flower beds. Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Ann (Reeder) Colclasure of Moline, Illinois and two nieces, Pat Cobb and Gretchen Kesterson, both of Wichita Falls, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister, Genevieve Seddon, and her only child, Robert Reeder Jr. Services:A graveside service is planned on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at 10:30 am in the Oquawka Cemetery. A memorial fund is established for Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab Center in Stronghurst, Illinois. Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka is in charge of arrangements.
