Verle Richard "Hank" Montgomery

Verle Richard "Hank" Montgomery, age 75, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 9:13 a.m. on Monday, December 29, 2008, at the OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth. Verle was born on June 24, 1933, Eliza County, Illinois, the son of Verle and Irene Linder Montgomery. Richard was raised and educated in the Little York area and attended Little York High School. Hank served in the United States Army as a sharpshooter from 1954-1957. Verle married Betty Irene Howell in Monmouth. Richard worked at Ralph Wells in Monmouth, John Deere Plant and various small jobs. While working at John Deere, Richard, lived in Davenport, Iowa. He retired from John Deere in 1998, and then moved to Monmouth. Hank enjoyed yard work and flowers. He also liked watching soap operas. He is survived by one daughter Roxanna L. Manes of Oquawka, Illinois, two sons, Gerry L. Montgomery and Randall J. Montgomery both of Monmouth, one step daughter Cathy L. Barker of Oquawka, seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, two sisters, Mary Hunt and Red of Rockford, Illinois, and Judy Parsons and Harold of Texas. Also surviving are a number of nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.Verle is preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Eldon Montgomery and Richard Montgomery, and one grandson Marcus Montgomery and one sister. Services:A funeral service for Verle Richard will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 5, 2009, at Turnbul Funeral Home in Monmouth. Interment will be in the Eliza Cemetery. Richard's family will be present to receive friends at Turnbull's on Sunday, January 4, from 2:00-4:00 p.m.
