Verna I. Gibb, age 91, of Biggsville, Illinois passed away at 10:15 am at Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab in Stronghurst, Illinois on Sunday May 26, 2013. Verna was born on November 10, 1921 in Cambridge, Illinois and is the daughter of George and Rose3 Ann White Slater. She was raised in Kewanee where she attended local schools and graduated from Wethersfield High School in the class of 1940. Verna then enlisted in the United States Coast Guard on March 25, 1943 and served with the rank of Sk3. She was married to Edward D. Gibb on February 9, 1946 in Coldbrook, Illinois. He preceded her in death on November 24, 2007. Verna was employed for a time in the Medical Records department at the former Monmouth Hospital, and was mainly a homemaker for her family and mother to her children. She was a member and active in the affairs of the Biggsville United Presbyterian Church where she cooked for many church dinners and events. She enjoyed cooking, canning, and baking ...the best pie in the community. Verna always loved and respected the military and it's service to our country and community. Verna was a charter member of the Women's Memorial Foundation. She was very dedicated in her walking and her daily exercise routine. She was an incredible care-giver in her community. Surviving her are her children, Janet (Jim) Wyma of Grand Rapids, MI; and her son Ronald Gibb of Highlands Ranch, CO. Her granddaughters, Tasha Mosher of Wichita, KS; Rebecca (Chris) Kalnin of Erie, Colorado; grandsons, Nick Mosher of Olympia, WA; Joe Gibb and Mike Gibb, both of Denver, CO. Great Grandsons, Ayden Jakeway of Wichita, KS and Daniel Kalnin of Erie, CO. Her sister in laws, Dorothy Hutchisson of Monmouth, Joyce Gibb of Lee Summit, MO, and Thelma (Wayne) Scott of Monmouth, also survive. One brother in law, Keith Gibb of Stronghurst, IL. and a number of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one daughter, Karen Hite. Services:A funeral service will be on Friday May 31, 2013 at 10:30 am at the Biggsville United Presbyterian Church in Biggsville, Illinois. Interment will be in the Biggsville Township Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be on Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Biggsville United Presbyterian Church in Biggsville, IL. Memorial funds have been established for either Biggsville United Presbyterian Church or Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab Center.
