Verna I. Rawhouser

Verna I. Rawhouser, age 92, of Biggsville, Illinois; passed away at Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab in Stronghurst, IL on June 30, 2011. Verna was born March 15, 1919 in Gladstone Township of Henderson County, IL and is the daughter of Clarence O. and Gertrude M Carpenter Dowell. She was raised and educated in Henderson County where she attended Bluffdale grade school and Stronghurst High School. She was married to Dale F. Rawhouser on July 9, 1938 in Burlington, Iowa and lived on the farm in Gladstone Township for six years before moving to Biggsville Township where his parents lived before retiring. He preceded her in death on October 17, 2007. Verna enjoyed being outdoors and assisting her husband in the daily management of the farm. In earlier years she was active in Cub Scouts and was part of the committee to find a physician in the community of Biggsville, IL. She is a member, Deacon and Trustee of the Biggsville United Presbyterian Church and a member of it's Ladies Aide. She volunteered at LaMoine Christian Nursing Home and other area nursing homes since 1972 and was named "Ageless Achiever" in 1994. She loved to bowl , serving on bowling committees and going to State, National, and other tournaments. She also was a member of the Pinochle Card Club in Biggsville, Illinois Surviving are her daughter Carol (Darrell) Elsea of Biggsville, Illinois and son David (Jill) Rawhouser of Arlington, Texas. One grandson Patrick Dale Rawhouser of Nashville, TN and several nieces and nephews survive. Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, one daughter Sandra , and one brother Milford Dowell. Services:A funeral service will be at the Biggsville United Presbyterian Church on Tuesday July 5, 2011 at 11:00 am. Her family will be present at the church to receive friends from 9:00 to 11:00 am on Tuesday prior to the service. Interment will be in the Biggsville Cemetery. Memorial funds have been established for either the Biggsville United Presbyterian Church or Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab.
