Vernon O. Carr, age 89, of Monmouth, Illinois passed away at 10:15 am on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. Vernon was born December 20, 1926 in Jettsville, West Virginia and is the son of Arthur and Verna Tinney Carr. He was raised in Jettsville, West VA where he attended local schools and graduated from Richwood High School with the class of 1944. He then attended two years of college. Vernon enlisted and proudly served his country as a Corporal in the United States Army during the occupation of Japan. Vernon married his childhood sweetheart, Felicia P. Venuso on August 22, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois and she is surviving. Vernon retired after forty years of service with the United States Postal Service, Chicago, IL where he was promoted to the position of Manager of Labor Relations, which required considerable travel to other cities. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth, and for years has been a member of the Monmouth Rotary Club. Vernon enjoyed and spent a great deal of time in the summer months taking care of a vegetable and flower garden and playing with which ever grandchildren were available at the time. Vernon is survived by his wife, Felicia of Monmouth, Illinois and one son, Robert Carr of Crown Point, IN, his daughter in law, Jane Carr of Galesburg, IL, two granddaughters, Erin Hill and Kathryn Backs, and four grandsons, Adam, Joseph, Brandon and Stephen Carr. There are eleven great grandchildren also surviving. Vernon's sister is surviving, Neva Barker of Florida. He is preceded in his death by his parents, one son, Vernon Jr., and one brother. Visitation His family plans visitation on Thursday evening at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth and will be present from 4:00 to 8:00 pm to receive their friends. Funeral Service A Mass of the Resurrection is planned for 10:30 am on Friday, July 15, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Church of Monmouth, IL. Cremation will follow the funeral mass on Friday morning A memorial fund is being established for either Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth or The Guardian Angels in Galesburg, Illinois.
