Vernon L."Moonie" Marston, Jr., age 84, of Monmouth, passed away at 10:25 pm on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg, Illinois. He was born January 18, 1929 in Monmouth, Illinois the son of Vernon and Ruth (Baird) Marston. Vernon received his education in Roseville, Illinois, attending both grammar school and high school. He spent 18 years of his life in Roseville, settling in the Monmouth community in 1947. He proudly served his Country during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Corporal with the United States Army. He served with the 101st Airborne in the U.S. and the 2nd Armored Constabulary in Germany. Vernon married Charlotte L. Themanson on December 27, 1950 in Monmouth at the Lutheran Church in Monmouth. He and Charlotte were re-married in the Los Angeles Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on January 23, 1965. Vernon worked at several occupations during his life and retired from the Illinois Department of Corrections in 1995. He was most passionate about his wife and three sons. Vernon devoted his life to God, family, and Country. He is survived by his wife, three sons, Gary (Pamela), Mark (Cheyne), and Matthew (Jennifer), 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services:Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, September 16, 2013 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Visitation will be on Sunday, September 15, 2013 from the hours of 3:00-5:00 pm. at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will take place at Monmouth Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society.
