Victor M. Bates

Victor M. Bates, age 68, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth, on Saturday May 9th. Victor was born on February 9, 1941 in Ft.Madison, Iowa and is the son of Sanford and Geraldine Redd Bates. Victor was raised in the Ft.Madison area where he attended local schools. He was previously married to Kathryn McCutcheon, and later married Debra Link. Victor was employed thirty-three years at Maytag Corporation in Galesburg, Illinois where he was a fork lift operator and served as custodian. He retired in 1998. Victor loved cards, and going to the boat. He also enjoyed bowling and throwing darts. He also enjoyed old cars and just ridin' around. Surviving are his sons, Victor Mills in Minnesota, Shiloh Bates, Matthew Burgess,Victor Bates Jr., Lance McCutcheon, and Shane McCutcheon, all of Monmouth, Illinois Daughters are Carolynn Harmon Gesling of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; April Sells and Rita McCutcheon both of Monmouth, IL. His special friend Brenda Sells survives and along with numerous Grandchildren. Victor's brother Byron Marsh survives in Auburn, Washington and Two sisters survive Vanessa Hogue and Coleen Jones both of Ft. Madison, Iowa. Preceding Victor in death would be his parents. Services:A memorial service will be at 11:00 am on Friday May 15th, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Cremation has been accorded. Victor's family plans to receive friends prior to the funeral service from 9:30 am to the time of the service at the funeral home on Friday morning. A memorial fund is being established for the Heart Association.
