Vinston E. "Sonny" Taylor

Vinston E. "Sonny" Taylor, age 81, of Rock Island, and formerly of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at St. Anthony's Hospice in Rock Island, Illinois on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 5:55 pm. Sonny was born on June 25, 1937 in Monmouth, Illinois and is the son of Ralph and Harriet Cox Taylor. He was raised and educated in Monmouth where he attended Monmouth Schools. Sonny first worked at Galesburg Malibu, and later was self employed detailing automobiles locally. Sonny worked at various jobs over the years. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Monmouth, Illinois. Sonny enjoyed dancing, reading, and being around his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all. He is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline Ondras of Chicago, IL and Sonya Taylor of Tampa, FL, and four grandchildren. Two sisters survive, Lillie M. Hayes of Galesburg, IL and Patricia M. Lucas of Monmouth, IL, two brothers; John W. Taylor of Monmouth, IL and Robert L. Taylor of Davenport, IA. A host of nieces and nephews are also surviving. He is preceded in his death by his parents, three sisters, and two brothers. A funeral service is planned for Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 10:30 am at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. His family plans to be at Turnbull's for the hour prior to the service for visitation 9:30 an to 10:30 am. Cremation will them be accorded following the funeral service.
