Violet R. Freed, age 93, formerly of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away on June 4, 2017 in Midlothian, VA. She was born on April 1, 1924 in Monmouth, Illinois, the daughter of Floyd J. and Lillian Mae (Poulson) Huffman. She was raised and educated in Monmouth, graduating from Monmouth High School in 1941. Violet married Maurice E. Freed at the Methodist parsonage in Canton, Missouri on May 13, 1943 and he preceded her in death on November 10, 1961. Violet worked as a secretary for the Gambles Skogmo Corporation and later for the DeKalb Regional Sales office, both in Monmouth. She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Monmouth. She enjoyed her yard and garden, cooking and baking, and visiting with her family. Survivors include her daughter, Judith, and son-in-law, Thomas McCarley, of Chesterfield, VA; her sister, Wanda White, formerly of Monmouth, IL; brother Daniel Huffman of Macomb, MI, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and one brother, Paul Victor Huffman of Tacoma, WA. Visitation Her family will be present one hour prior to the service to receive friends. Funeral Service A funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park. Memorials may be given to the charity of the donors choice.
