Virgie Lynn Scott-Shiman, 69, of Galesburg, died Sunday, September 7, 2025 at her home.

She was born in Galesburg, the daughter of Virgil Ralph and Rosalie Ann (Folger) Moore. Virgie graduated from Galesburg High School in 1974 and was also a student at Carl Sandburg College. She worked as a paraprofessional for Galesburg High School for many years until she became a caregiver for her granddaughter, Lucy.

Virgie impacted everyone she met in a positive way, and held a special place in their hearts. She was fiercely committed to those she loved and never missed an opportunity to support her family. She gave selflessly – to a fault – and she will always be remembered for her quick wit, her infectious laugh, her hard work, and her warm heart.

Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Dustin (Autumn) Scott of Galesburg, and Blake Shiman of Colona, Illinois; her granddaughter, Lucy Scott; her partner, Michael Dumse of Galesburg; one sister, Terri Moore of Galesburg; one uncle, Don Folger; and her two sweet granddogs, Moto and Vern. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Throughout her life, Virgie took immense pride in her two sons and her daughter-in-law. She was a devoted grandmother whose heart was filled with joy while spending time with her beloved granddaughter, Lucy. Their days together were filled with laughter and creativity, often spent playing with Barbies and Virgie taking great delight in spoiling Lucy. They were the best of friends. Virgie appreciated the simple pleasures of life such as spending quality time with her family, gardening, watching football, and fishing. She was the ultimate caregiver and taught those around her how to love with great conviction and compassion.

Cremation will be accorded. Private burial of her cremated remains will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to her family to be designated to a college trust fund for Lucy.
