William Allen Twedt, 83, of Galesburg, Illinois, died at 1:51 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg.

Allen as he was known, was born January 5, 1942 in Fort Benning, Georgia, the son of Harley Alvin and Aletha Bertha (Haas) Twedt. Following high school, he enlisted in the Army National Guard of Illinois. He attended Southern Illinois University, graduating with a business marketing degree in 1968. Allen was honorably discharged from the Army Reserves in 1969. On June 21, 1969, Allen married the love of his life, Nancy Nell Marcum at Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. Allen is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nancy of Galesburg; three daughters, Lora (Jim) Burback of Waukesha, Wisconsin, Kimberly (Jeff) Wahl of Elgin, Illinois, and Ginny (Zach) Crowl of Galesburg; and three grandchildren, Riley Wahl, Haley Wahl, and John Crowl. Along with his parents, Allen was preceded in death by one brother, Ronald.

Allen worked for many years in sales and marketing in the trucking and transportation business, last working for Standard Forwarding prior to retiring in 2007. A faithful Christian, Allen was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Galesburg, driving the church van for 30 years. An active member of the community, Allen served many years on the board of directors at KCCDD, volunteered at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, and was a longtime member of AMBUCs. Aside from his civic dedication, Allen was proud of his family and enjoyed being with them as much as possible. Spending many summers on the water boating and waterskiing at Lake Muskellunge in Wisconsin and Lake Shelbyville in Illinois. He loved playing cards, was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan, loved to eat ice cream, and with his friendly smile, never met a stranger. Through all of his life, Allen was known to have the will of a warrior.

Cremation will be accorded. Private family graveside will be at East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.
